The indie rock duo Diet Cig acquired a cult following shortly after forming in 2014 and releasing its first EP, Over Easy.

In 2017, it followed the album up with its full-length debut, I Swear I’m Good at This.

The band returns next month with its latest effort, Do You Wonder About Me? The album serves as an ode to growing up.

“We spent a lot of time after the first record growing as people, being humans outside of tour for a little bit, and trying to shed the imposter syndrome,” says singer-guitarist Alex Luciano in a press release, adding that the album is essentially about “considering and accepting the embarrassing aspects of your identity and how they’re just as much a part of you as the good stuff.”

With Do You Wonder About Me?, Diet Cig had the sense that it could make whatever album it wanted to make. Instead of practicing live to an audience, Luciano and drummer Noah Bowman worked on their songs over the course of a year in their practice space. They finished the tracks with longtime producer Chris Daly at Headroom Studios in Philadelphia and at Salvation Recording in New Paltz, NY. The album expands the band’s sonic range too.

Ahead of the album, which comes out on May 1 via Frenchkiss Records, the group has issued the single “Who Are You?”

“‘Who Are You?’ is for anyone who’s ever received a completely self-serving apology from someone who’s hurt them,” reads the press release announcing the single’s release. “Healing doesn’t wait for an ‘I’m sorry’ to appear, and it can feel silly to have one arrive when you’re completely over it. This song takes these bad feelings and turns them into a fun upbeat jam to dance around in your kitchen to!”

The duo’s originally scheduled spring tour has been re-booked for the fall and the dates now kick off at the previously announced show in Pittsburgh, PA on October 3. They will play Brooklyn’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg on November 5 and their first UK show will be November 18 in Bristol at Rough Trade.

Diet Cig have made use of social media to compensate for not being able to tour and recently went live on Instagram to answer questions from fans and play a short set. The group also took part in “Noisey Night In,” a livestream concert hosted by Noisey and VICE to benefit the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund
