Rapper and comedian Open Mike Eagle just announced the second season of his critically-acclaimed podcast, What Had Happened Was. Following the success of season one, which The A.V. Club called one of the best podcasts of 2020, season two finds Mike interviewing rapper and producer extraordinaire El-P as they discuss his work with Company Flow, Cannibal Ox, Definitive Jux and Run the Jewels.

Episodes will air every Wednesday beginning March 31, the podcast and launches on Open Mike Eagle’s own network, Stony Island Audio.

“I was psyched to sit down with Mike Eagle and do what every artist likes to do most: talk endlessly about myself,” says El-P in a press release. “Hopefully, my shattered, weed-addled memory didn’t get too much in the way.”

The second season of What Had Happened Was arrives after a particularly productive year. In 2020 alone, Open Mike Eagle released his album Anime, Trauma and Divorce, launched his own podcast network, and debuted his own fully independent label, AutoReverse Records.

Open Mike Eagle also embarked on an innovative, socially-distanced drive-in tour with comedian Hannibal Burress, began a daily show on Instagram Live titled Quarantine Drivetime Radio Show, and appeared on SYFY’s The Great Debate, an unscripted, half-hour series hosted by Baron Vaughn (Open Mike Eagle serves as a co-host on their critically-acclaimed Comedy Central show The New Negroes, which featured Lizzo, Danny Brown, MF Doom and Method Man as musical guests).

Open Mike Eagle also started the Funny or Die show Call & Response.
