Country Crooner Orville Peck Gets Candid on New Single

Alt-country singer-songwriter Orville Peck has just released the next single from his forthcoming new album, Mule, a candid account of his battle with addiction and his eventual recovery. “Already Gone” is reportedly one of the album’s rowdier numbers. “’Already Gone’ lands early in the album’s story, when I first entered the rehab facility,” says Peck in a press release. “I accepted the decision to seek treatment but deep down I believed I didn’t have a problem. The video reflects my arrogant mindset as I picture the experience as a lighthearted musical, while in reality, I was in total crisis.”

Produced by Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Eric Church) and written by Peck with Jacob Portrait (Alex G, Porches), “Already Gone” features bluegrass stars Molly Tuttle and Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show), plus Ry Jennings, lend their gifts to the bridge.   

The “Already Gone” video depicts Peck in a rehab facility. We see the difficult day-to-day work of getting sober: therapy sessions, urine tests, an endless parade of tiny paper pill cups, and Peck is joined by his band in the dayroom. Noah Cyrus, Allison Russel and Cathy Cooper make their third appearance in their re-occurring roles as the three figments of Orville’s mind. 

Afterward, the clip ends with a message, directing any viewers who are struggling or in crisis — or know someone else who is — to contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or The Trevor Project (for LGBTQ+ youth) by texting “START” to 678-678. 

Ahead of the album’s release on Sept. 12, Peck will give fans an intimate first look at Mule at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre. During the special evening, Peck and his band will perform the album in its entirety and discuss the deeply personal story behind its creation. Tickets are on sale today HERE.

On Sept. 18, Peck will headline the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The North American Man Turned Mule Tour will continue through Nov. 22 in Huntington, NY with Nashville singer-songwriter Abbie Callahan joining the tour beginning Oct. 28.

Additionally, $1 from every ticket sold on the tour will be donated to The Trevor Project, supporting its mission to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ young people.
