Eric Ambel Digs Into His Vaults for Shut In Singles Series
Guitarist and producer Eric “Roscoe” Ambel (Nils Lofgren, the Brandos, Steve Earle, the Yayhoos, Del Lords, the Bottle Rockets, Joan Jett, Mojo Nixon, Blood Oranges, Blue Mountain, Freedy Johnston, Mary Lee’s Corvette) began sifting through his vaults while staying at home like public healthy safety-minded people in most of the country. As a result, he realized he had some tracks that might make for a good series of singles. He’s dubbed the collection the Shut In Singles Series and posted it to Bandcamp.
So far, it includes “How About It?,” a four-track cassette from 1984 and “Cocaine Eyes,” a tune from Neil Young’s Eldorado EP that only came out in Japan and Australia. Ambel has written detailed descriptions of the songs that give real insight into his creative process.
Future releases include “All Down the Line,” a tune he recorded with Warner Hodges in Springfield, Missouri, in 1992, two blues rarities (“Flood of Love” and “Upside Your Head”), a cover of Nick Lowe’s “12 Step Program (To Quit You Babe),” a home demo version of “From a Better Place” and “Sensitive Kind,” a studio cut from a Shannon McNally session that features his vocal.
He plans to release the songs one at time.
