We Banjo 3 Delivers Daily Livestreamed Material
About ten years ago, singer-multi-instrumentalist David Howley formed We Banjo 3 with his brother, Martin Howley, and Enda Scahill. “It was three guys with three banjos,” David Howley once told us. “It was exceptionally fun. People took to it immediately.”
The band’s first gig at the Galway Arts Festival sold out. Howley admits it was partly because of the band’s name. The group then added multi-instrumentalist Feral Swahili and it’s been full-steam ahead ever since.
Critics use the term “Celtgrass” to describe the band’s mix of traditional Irish music and bluegrass. On Monday, the band enters week two of daily live-streamed content. The band wants to connect with fans through daily live meetups on its Facebook and Instagram platforms, hosting casual performances, fan Q&As, live interviews with fellow musicians and fans who are tuned in to the streams, poetry and book excerpt readings, “general banter” about topics of interest and more.
On Thursdays, the band will deliver video and live recordings from the archives, and on Saturdays join the band for a Facebook Live Dance Party. Fans can visit WB3’s socials to tune in weekdays at 12pm CT and at 8pm CT on Saturday.
Although the outbreak of COVID-19 interrupted the quartet’s extensive winter/spring tour, the band has sought to an “even more personalized” connection to audiences.
We Banjo 3 is committed to giving back to the community too. For each contribution or “tip” received during their live online streaming performances, the band will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to MusiCares.
