Erykah Badu Embraces the Unconventional for Quarantine Concert Series
After a string of concert cancellations due to COVID-19, soul singer Erykah Badu put together the Quarantine Concert Series: The Apocalypse as a way to support what she describes as the “ecosystem that helps her grow.” She intends to use the series to support the individuals that help bring her visions to life, especially during the tour season where they earn the majority of their income.
You can find the series on her platform.
“All at once, it was like everything stopped. Not just for me… but for the people I hire to go on the road with me,” says Badu in a statement. “Their livelihood was in my hands, and I knew I had to do something for us.”
Quarantine Concert Series: The Apocalypse promises to be “unconventional, uncomfortable, and unbothered with its raw and edgy vibe.” Badu intends to let viewers be hands-on with the production and gives “unedited access” to Badu’s reality as the show broadcasts live.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Badu’s second studio release, Mama’s Gun, the 10th anniversary of New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh and the fifth year since Badu dropped her ambitious mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone.
