Hiss Golden Messenger Releases a Live Album to Benefit Durham Public Schools
Earlier this year, Durham’s Hiss Golden Messenger recorded a live album during a two-night stand at Cat’s Cradle, a famous indie rock club located in Carrboro. The resulting album, Forward, Children: A Fundraiser for Durham Public Schools Students, just arrived on Bandcamp.
On Friday, April 1, it will be available on more digital platforms.
All profits from the release will be donated to North Carolina’s Durham Public Schools Foundation.
The son of two teachers, bandleader M.C. Taylor taught for a time at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill after finishing graduate work there. His wife, Abby, is now an ESL instructor in Durham.
In mid-March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Durham Public Schools announced that they’d be closed at least through mid-May. As a result, many children throughout the school system don’t know where they’ll get their next meal. Taylor hopes the band’s live album will help alleviate the situation, and all profits from Forward, Children will benefit the Durham Public Schools Foundation.
“It’s my duty as a dad of students and the spouse of a teacher to give what I can,” Taylor says in a press release.
